In almost every town in Turkey's blade production is possible to see that the master. However, there are only a few cities that are famous for this work. The first of these is Yatağan, a town in Denizli. In fact, two elements lie behind the quality of Yatağan knives: Ottoman history and Denizli's skill in this field. Since the foundation of the Ottoman Empire, Yatağan district of Denizli produced swords for the soldiers of the Ottoman Empire. In this region, where great masters were trained, sword production took its place among respectable professions. This profession, which has dignity and profits, has become a craft that passed from father to son in the Ottoman period. The Denizli craftsmen, who continue their tradition from father to son, have made these Yatağan Knives a brand today. Thanks to the developing and changing production methods and techniques over time, Yatağan knives have gained an important place both in the country and internationally. As in every production job, one of the most important factors affecting quality in knife production is undoubtedly the material used. Yatağan craftsmen apply heat treatment to steel to produce a quality knife. With this process, they increase the steel to 54 rockwell and above hardness, resulting in a very strong material.
After the production of flat steel after the 1950s, knife making methods have also changed. These iron bars, which come flat, are first cut into strips with a strip cutting machine, these rods are heated by bellows and both shaped and hardened mutually with a double hammer. This piece is heated and beaten three times. Then this shape is cut together with the handle size. In the handle process, it is heated twice more and given its final shape with a double hammer. In order to make the stamp and the hole on the handle easier, the knife is annealed again and the bottom of the hole is drilled with the upper round stamp without changing the color. The stamps are made of steel and have reverse words written on them. When this stamp is hit quickly with a hammer, it comes out hollow on the already hot knife. In order for the steel to be stronger in use, to work well and to maintain its first sharpness, it is hammered without heating with 1-1.5 kg hammers, this is called the "dry hammer" process. Thus, the pulses contact all parts of the iron, their molecules are compressed and the iron becomes more resistant. Then the stems are made according to certain types and models and quenching process is started. Quenching is done with different methods by eye decision.
