VINTAGE NOVELTY TOY CO RUBE IN A TUBE JACK IN THE BOX LATCH & SPRING GOOD

Description

A cute little vintage novelty toy labeled as "The Country Cousin to "Jack in the Box," this one is round and measures 5 5/8" tall and 3 1/8" in diameter.  The paper label on the back reads " The Happy Boob Rube in a Tube Springs like a Goob." The paint on the red wooden lid is all good but the lid is just slightly warped on the right side.  The spring and the latch are in good shape. The rube himself is printed on oilcloth and the paint has faded over the years.  Also, the very top of his head is missing some of the pattern where the head of the jack in the box pushed against the wood cover over the years when the top was latched.  Manufactured by the Novel Toy Co., New York (1) N.Y.  Perhaps the 1 in () will help to date the toy more precisely than we have been able to date it.  The paper label is discolored with age and has some minor areas of loss. There are some small chips to the red paint on the metal bottom rim.  Over all condition is very nice.
Our items are found at estate sales, yard sales, thrift stores, and junk jaunts that do not allow me to know the origin or history of the piece.
Some we wash and some we don't.
