    Description

Tanuki Very Large Statue Japanese Restaurant Mascot Garden Good Luck Ambassador
    DETAILS OF ITEM
This is a very large Japanese Tanuki (Raccoon Dog) statue that measures 44 inches high by 22.5 inches wide by 18 inches deep.  It was made in the Shigaraki kiln region of Japan.
Known as a good luck symbol in the Japanese culture, one this size would have adorned the entrance of a restaurant or Izakaya (Japanese pub) to advertise delicious food and drink within the establishment.  The Tanuki itself is a talisman to draw in customers because it too enjoys eating (as witnessed by its large belly) and drinking (as shown by the sake bottle it carries on its right arm).
The last photo shows it standing next to a standard 500 ml bottle (not included) to give it some scale to its size.
It would make a wonderful statue for any outdoor garden or an advertising diplomat for any Sushi or Japanese restaurant.
