Tanzanite is the blue and violet variety, caused by small amounts of vanadium. The gemstone was discovered in the Mererani Hills of Manyara Region in Northern Tanzania, near the city of Arusha and
Mount Kilimanjaro.

In my research I have learned that the lighter colors come from the beginning of the mines, while the darker shades come from further within the mines.
