    Description

    ABOUT:
    Such a beautiful antique late Georgian to early Victorian mourning pendant.  This is in gold fill with rich black enamel on the cover.  It has a beveled glass pane on the back with fabric in it, possibly meant to hold hair or a photo but I was not sure how to open it.  It does not have a hinge so I believe the panel is nested in there and it does not move or spin.  Being such an old piece I did not want to force it or risk damaging it by trying to pry it open.  On the cover amidst the black enamel it reads, "In Memory Of My Dear Parent."
    It is a bit heartbreaking to think about but what a lovely remembrance!  I acquired this old piece in Europe.   Very beautiful piece with quite a bit of remaining enamel considering it is so old, and such ornate detail work around the rim and loop.
    The enamel under light up magnification is actually a deep navy blue but to the eye and even in sunlight it presents as almost black.
    HALLMARKS:
    No hallmarks, Gold Filled piece.
    MEASUREMENTS:
    34mm top to bottom, 22.5mm wide.
    IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
    Please note that all my pieces are in estate condition.  Beautiful patina to the gold.   Under magnification I can see some build up around the rim but I like my antique pieces to look antique : ).  There is quite a bit of surface wear, visible on the beveled glass panel and scuffs and nicks to the enamel.  It still presents as black so the enamel loss does not reach to the underlying gold, but it does have a bit of a matte finish and rough surface in some areas because it is very old.
    I could not get the glass panel to open so it may have been made to stay permanently shut.  Still feels very sturdy.  Still a fantastic and eye catching piece.
    But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition.
