This is a great carving! It was carved in the himalayan kingdom of Nepal by a pilgram I met while travelling overland from China many years ago. I no longer have contact with him, so these prayer pendants and also the prayer mantra plaques and
mani stones
which I have listed are now in very short supply. Unfortunately I won't be able to get more like this :(
The pendant is handcarved and measures approximately 3/4" high x 5/8" wide (*may be larger). It is carved on one side with the sacred syllable,
Om
, and on the other side with a sun.
Om is the sacred syllable venerated since ancient times by Buddhists, Brahmins, and Hindus alike. The universe is said to have begun with this sound, and all the sounds of life are said to be contained within it. Om is thus considered the "breath of all life", and often regarded as too holy to be spoken aloud.
