    Description

    I found this in a storage unit, the tenant was the son of a WW2 veteran who was killed in action August 31 1950 in Korea. This along with a few other items I believe belonged to the father who brought them back as souvenirs. The picture has been blurred out to hide erotic parts from underneath the sculpture.
    Except from the internet;
    American soldiers discovered these dolls during the Korean War. Their base was in Fukuoka where the dolls were being made. Fukuoka lies at the northern end of the Island of Kyushu, which was pretty close to Korea. A man named Urasaki owned the store that supplied the dolls to the military base post known as the PX where the soldiers purchased their souvenirs on the way home. They became labeled as Hakata Urasaki Dolls
    There are various different versions of this doll dating back to the mid 1940s. They first appear as Hakata Urasaki Dolls, with a Ryuu (Dragon) tattoo and were popular souvenirs, made for United States servicemen stationed in the region after World War II.
