Microscope is built on a horseshoe base. Movable double mirror. Wooden case with metal handle + key to lock. Brass plate reads Gundlach-Manhattan Optical Company IT’S ALL IN THE LENS. Box size: 14-1/4”H x 9” x 7-1/2”. Microscope tube rises from 11-3/4” - 14”. Double mirror shows light smudges. Gundlach-Manhattan Optical Company was founded by Gundlach, born in 1834, who emigrated to America in 1872, already an accomplished optician. He opened his own optical business in Rochester, NY. Whe Gundlach Optical Company acquired Manhattan Optical Co. in 1902, he began manufacturing microscopes under Gundlach-Manhattan Optical Company.

The case has 2 pull-out storage shelves, one for objective lenses that include 7x and 3X, and one that holds brass containers for the 3 eyepiece lenses 1/6, 1/2, 2/3. Microscope is built on a traditional black lacquered horseshoe base. Movable double mirror. Wooden case with metal handle and key to lock. Brass plate on horseshoe reads:  Gundlach-Manhattan Optical Company IT’S ALL IN THE LENS. Box size: 14-1/4”H x 9” x 7-1/2”.

    : Gundlach-Manhattan Optical Company was founded by Gundlach, who was born in 1834, and emigrated to America in 1872, already an accomplished optician. In 1878, he had severed his connection with Bausch & Lomb, opening his own business in Rochester. Gundlach Optical Company acquired Manhattan Optical Co. in 1902 and began manufacturing microscopes, lenses, and eyepieces under the new name, Gundlach-Manhattan Optical Company.
