This "INVESTIGATOR" model was produced by Bausch and Lomb for about 7 years.  The SECOND MODEL under the B & L ensign was issued under the name i"UNIVERSAL" - which was covered by an additional patent to the OCT. 3, 1876 PATENT and was  DATED to the year 1885 and on the SECOND, more common "UNIVERSAL" MODELS had engraved both the "1876" and "1885" patent dates on the side of the limb.    The Bausch and Lomb "INVESTIGATOR" on offer does not have the later "1885" patent date.  Also, by 1885, Bausch and Lomb started to produce the more garden variety smaller form of objective - and not the sleek straightforward looking and more substantial looking objectives as is offered with the earlier "UNIVERSAL" MODEL we have on offer.
    W
ear usually is consistent with age and use and the carry case does show such use.  However the microscope and objectives have 100% lacquer present with no pitting or scratches - basically **MINTY**.
Please see all photos as they are part of the description.
    A wonderful example of the B & L "
INVESTIGATOR" MODEL with the GUTTA PERCHA MIRROR CELL and GUTTA PERCHA CONDENSOR w/ WHEEL OF STOPS.
