Description
Up for auction is a beautiful vintage 1920s Reichert Compound Microscope marked, "REICHERT AUSTRIA No. 90155"; According to Dr. Brian Bracegirdle's,Notes on Modern Microscope Manufacturers,
written in 1996, this serial number is from 1925.
Brass and nickel parts throughout. Body is black lacquer and nickeled steel. Triple nose piece, nickeled steel, marked, "3", "6" and "1/12". Coarse and fine focus knobs on both sides of limb. Vulcanite stage, one removable slide clip. Substage condenser with iris diaphragm and filter holder below condenser. Cylindrical screw raises/lowers condenser, substage swings out at lower limit of motion. Plano/concave mirror and arm are missing. Objectives all in black enameled brass cans, with lids marked: "3", “6b”, and “18 18b 1/12”. Three objective lenses all marked Reichert Austria and: “18 101x
1/12 Immersion 18b No. 49301”, “6b 45x”,
“3 10x”. Two ocular/eyepiece lenses marked Reichert Austria and “II 5x” and “IV 10x”. Wood with black leather-covered case, 13in long x 7in wide x 8.75in high, with green plush-lined notches; hinge and lock escutcheon; key; leather handle. Includes wooden interior box for slides, and original information sheet. Please ask if you’d like more photos of the case. Also includes threaded-lid container with small glass test tube and cork stopper, box labeled Xylol, with glass bottle and dropper; box labeled Crown Immersion Oil – rubber dropper appears to have fused with the box. I didn’t open it completely. Overall condition is very good, with very few signs of use and corrosion. This is an amazing piece that is nearly 100 years old. It’s a perfect addition to any collection.
