    Description

W&L.E. Gurley was famous for making surveying and engineering instrument. This instrument is one I have never seen before. I have searched and search and cannot find a Gurley one on the Internet. However, I found one just like it by another long lost maker. They list it as a "Fraunhofer's Screw Micrometer" Microscope. This screw micrometer comes from the College of Wooster Physics Dept. The only thing "possibly" missing is a lens in the bottom microscope objective. I have included a "newer" one that fits it fine
I have found another source that states the screw micrometer top as follows:
This type of micrometer was called a Ramdsen Eyepiece micrometer after the inventor, Jesse Ramsden. The original model moved a spider web along a scale of 'combs.'   This was then replaced by a thin wire, and then, as in this model, a fine line scribed on glass. Dallinger suggested a fixed line as well as a moving line, this modification being found here.
