Description

This superb antique (ca. 1950) porcelain figurine depicts a splendidly dressed Japanese Samurai warrior wielding a sword.    The figurine stands 10 1/2" tall and has green felt on its base.  The blade of the sword is original; it was manufactured from a hard material other than porcelain, probably wood.
The figurine was created was by American artist Kathi Urbach, who designed for Goldscheider/Goldcrest Ceramics (Trenton, N.J.) and Beswick Pottery in the late 1940s–early 1950s. Her works were sold at Higbees and other upscale department stores.
For more information on Kathi Urbach, see https://community.ebay.com/t5/Collectibles-Art/Question-about-figurine-artist-Kathi-Urbach/td-p/27561600.
There are minor imperfections on the hem of the Samurai’s robe (see photographs).  They are either from an old repair or, more probably, an imperfection that came from the manufacturing process.
