    Here we have an
Antique, Fine, M. PILLISCHER, LONDON, No. 424 Brass Compound Microscope w/ Accessories &
    Mahogany Storage Case
    .
Moritz Pillischer emigrated from Hungary to London, England in 1845. He opened an independent shop that produced microscopes and other scientific and mathematical instruments from about 1849-1887. While his instruments were not quite as precise as the top three English makers (Powell and Lealand, Ross, and Smith, Beck & Beck), they were widely considered to be nearly as good as those makers’ products, and he won many awards for his instruments. The makers information in located on the rear foot along with the serial number 424.
This is a truly fine fully working early Microscope with some nice accessories. The scope has the usual scratches and minor corrosion marks on the lacquered brass, but with some expert cleaning you could probably make it shine more, if that is the look you want. At its fully closed position it is approx. 11" tall and when opened approx. 15" tall. Coarse focusing is completed using the large brass knobs and fine focusing is performed using the one finely milled knob on the tube support arm. All moving parts are smooth and free.  The single mirror reflector is in very good condition with just some fading around the edges. Scope comes with one eyepiece and two 'PILLISCHER' engraved brass canisters (engraved 1/4 in. and 1 in.) with no engraving on the actual objectives. It also has two Prism Lenses which look to be in very good condition. (one fits in the bottom of the main tube and the other one fits into the substage flip-out aperture rack. There is a nice Stage Forceps and huge pair of brass Tweezers measuring 5-3/4"L
The quality dovetailed Mahogany case (approx. 8" x 6-3/4" x 6-1/2") contains this attractive brass microscope and has a sliding wood base.  The case has a brass carrying handle, 2 brass hinges, and a brass hook (the original lock is missing). No cracks in the case...just some scratches and nicks from use.   No cracks, breaks or repairs in this instrument.
This high quality PILLISCHER microscope would make a great addition to your collection !!!
This microscope weighs approx. 7 lbs. (unpacked).
