Antique botanist’s Cary-type brass microscope kit c. 1820’s
A very fine botanist type, or Cary style microscope measuring 6 1/8" tall without its case, and 8" with the case. It has rack and pinion stage focusing, and a concave mirror in exceptional condition. The instrument is unsigned and comes with two lenses, which can be stacked to provide varying powers. The instrument can also be used as a simple microscope (see illustrations). Accessories include a stage forceps, a live box, and two ivory talc sliders with all talcs present. The stage forceps has its original ivory disc with black and white sides for opaque background viewing.  The mahogany box measures 4 5/8" x 3 3/4" x 1 3/8". It is in excellent polished condition with a plush-lined pull out accessory tray. The lid is lined with plush deep blue velvet.
The microscope is in excellent cosmetic and functioning condition and retains most of its original lacquer finish noting the typical wear of age as shown in the high-resolution photos.
