    Description

A beautiful Antique Brass W. Watson & Son Microscope.  W. Watson and Son was an optical instrument maker. In 1837, the William Watson business was established in London for the manufacturer of optical instruments.  By the 1840s, the company moved into lanterns, slides and associated equipment.  In 1868, the name was changed to W. Watson & Son and by this time were located at 313 High Holborn, London.  In 1883, the name of the company was changed to W. Watson & Sons as the son, Charles Henry Watson joined the business. (***Source Wikipedia***).   Therefore, this dates this microscope to be from the late 1800s to early 1900s.
The microscope has good clear optics throughout and it tilts, the eyepiece  tube is the extendable type.  It has a square stage with spring clip.  Below the stage is the condenser, a mirror and diaphragm to control the level of light.  Overall the microscope appears to be in good working condition.  All contained in a beautiful case (missing handle and key) .   The microscope shows its age (normal signs of wear) so don't expect it to be brand new.  There is  tarnish on the brass lacquer and general signs of wear on the box.  Although in working order it is really being sold as decorative / collector item rather than a scientific instrument.  As far as I know, it has never been cleaned and/or polished.
Accessories:  2-eyepieces (MARKED B & C), 4-Objectives lens (1/6 IN, 1 IN, 1 IN-LABED WATSON'S ARGUS, 1.25 NA).  The 1/6 and 1 IN Objective Lens contained in matching canister-labeled W. Watson & Sons London, the 1-IN W-ARGUS contained in 1-IN matching canister (canister not labeled W. Watson & Sons) and the 1.25 NA Objective Lens has not canister.
    Microscope Fixtures:
a - Stage: Square type  with Spring Clip
b - Focusing: Separate coarse & fine adjustment
c - Light Source: Mirror-Adjustable (slides up/down on a swinging bar).  It has some visible spots and scratches but overall in good condition.
    d - Substage - Condenser with variable-aperture diaphragm
    e - Base: Horseshoe type
