    Description

    Background:
The camera Lucida for drawing was used for many years, but most designs were tricky to use in lighted surroundings. Abbe developed a prism apparatus with a mirror on a long arm and neutral density filters for this easy-to-use design. Similar devices are still manufactured.  The camera Lucida consists of a collar meant to attach to a microscope eyepiece above which is a hinged mount for the silvered double prism and side arm carrying a swiveling mirror.
The unit shows its age (normal signs of wear) so don't expect it to be brand new.  It comes in its original case labeled "ZEICHENAPPARAT NATCH ABBE / CARL ZEISS JENA" and the case itself is NOT in great condition (the lid is detached from the rest of the case) and it has oil stains.  However, the inside (blue velvet) is in decent shape.  The entire unit seems to be complete.  In the back of the mirror it's engraved " Carl Zeiss Jena" and in addition it was inscribed with previous and/or original owner's name (Row's C....).    Although, it is in working order it is really being sold as a decorative / collector item rather than a scientific instrument.  As far as I know, it has never been cleaned and/or polished.  overall it's a beauty to add to your collection.  Very RARE item indeed (it belongs in a museum) !!!!
