    Description

This antique "Bausch & Lomb Optical Co. Rochester, N.Y" "Sauveur & Boylston Cambridge, U.S.A. 914" serial number 129848 microscope manufactured in 1918 was owned by the previous owner's (son) father when he was employed by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company in New Haven, Connecticut starting in the late 1930s.  His surname "SAVAGE" is painted on one side of the base. The son had the microscope since his dad gave it to me, but he never used it.  The microscope is in excellent condition with minimal signs of wear or corrosion. The mechanical stage is in excellent condition with smooth motion in both the x and y directions. Two additional lenses are included. One is an extra eyepiece. The other is another objective to change the power of the microscope. Both eyepieces are 10X, so one is an extra. The coarse focuser works fine. The fine focuser on the top of the Jug Handle works fine.  The original wooden case shows wear on the sides and back.  The back has a split in it holder shown in photo #10. The interior of the case has a 5 position sliding lens holder n the upper right hand corner with a 16mm lens in one of the positions, and a lens holder on the left side containing a 10x lens shown in Photo #10.  The brass hinges are in excellent condition as shown in photo #11.  I especially like the way the sides of  the case are attached to  the top shown in  photo #12.  The key is bent. I did not want to try it or straighten it, so the key will not break. I'll leave that to you. I believe 1918 was the last year that Jug Handles were made. This microscope will make a great display for science classroom, office, or home. This item is meant for a collector's item, not for actual use!
