DESIGNER/COMPANY/LOCATION:
Unsigned, but most likely from Scotland:
Celtic motifs, the order of the Garter, ring brooches, luckenbooths as well as many beautiful abstract geometric forms were crafted in their thousands by workshops from Inverness to Glasgow. Surprisingly, the majority of these artisans have remained anonymous as pieces were rarely signed. Little is known about their history, but we do know they were handmade and that no two pieces are alike.
METAL:
Sterling Silver
DETAILS:
~ 1900s Celtic Brooch/Pin
~ Large, Faceted & Prong Set, Open Back Citrine Paste (crystal) which was commonly used in antique Scottish jewelry (along with the Cairngorm).
~ The stone setting is raised high and supported with Silver Thistle Leaves.
~ The surround is lovely and comprised of (6) Hand cut, Crescent shaped Scottish Agate Gemstones: 2 Bloodstones (heliotrope), 2 Carnelians, & 2 Blue Lace Agates (very lightly banded) *Crescents moons were a popular motif and believed to bring Good Luck.
~ Reverse Stamped Sterling Silver; Secure Period C Clasp Closure
CONDITION:
Excellent
Vintage condition
overall with very minor wear considering this is over a hundred-years-old. Wear to some of the agates, but unseen with naked eye; A few teeny tiny ‘flea bites’ on the citrine crystal noticeable upon magnified inspection. Please view all photos to judge the condition for yourself.
