    Description

    Offered at auction, a set of 10 Antique Microscope Slides of Diatoms collected from 10 different UK locations, c 1850s.  A wide selection of Diatom Species are represented. Based on signed and dated slides from the same large collection, the mounter can be identified as Naturalist Henry Deane of Clapham, and are from the early 1850s.
    The slides are
    in good condition, and offer educational and entertaining views using various magnifications and lighting techniques.
    Photomicrographs that accompany this auction are taken using the actual slides offered in the auction. The images are acquired using various techniques appropriate to the specimen type, including Brightfield, Darkfield, Oblique illumination, Polarized light with various wave plates, Phase Contrast, etc.
    All of the Antique and Vintage microscope slides we offer at auction are from our own collections. They are the work of many of the best preparers from the 1830s into the mid 20
